Part (a)

  • The local maximum is where the graph changes from increasing to decreasing.
  • The local minimum is where the graph changes from increasing to decreasing.

The local minimum you are missing is
\boxed{(-3, -2)}.

Part (b)

  • The function is increasing when the graph is going "up".
  • The function is decreasing when the graph is going "down".
  • Note that stationary points (such as local maxima and minima) are not included, since the graph is neither increasing nor decreasing at these points.
  • Also, remember that when doing interval notation, the smaller endpoint goes on the right.

Increasing:
(-3, 0) \cup (2, \infty)

Decreasing:
(-\infty, -3) \cup (0, 2)
