This book's point of view is incredibly intriguing; John and Lorraine alternately narrate the chapters, giving us both of their perspectives. The primary characters are also individually presented via the viewpoint of the others; Lorraine, for instance, can be rather scathing of John. We would have a very different story if only one of them were narrating.
