Explanation:


(j-5)/(6) + 1 = -2\\

subtract 1 from both sides:


(j-5)/(6) + 1 - 1 = -2-1


(j-5)/(6) = -3

multiply both sides by 6:


((j-5)/(6))*6 = -3*6


j-5=-18

add 5 to both sides:


j-5+5=-18+5

j = -13
