Sam had 233 dollars to spend on 7 books. After buying them he had 16 dollars. How much did each book cost?

Answer:

You can just subtract the remaining money from the total amount of money he had:

233 - 16 = 217

Then you divide that by the amount of books he had spent money on:

217/7 = 31

Each book amounted to $31!
