Since

9 : 2 = 72 : X

Then we know

2/9 = X/72

Multiplying both sides by 72 cancels on the right

72 × (2/9) = (X/72) × 72

72 × (2/9) = X

Then solving for X

X = 72 × (2/9)

X = 16

9 : 2 = 72 : 16
