- 5x + y = 12

Add both sides 5x

- 5x + 5x + y = 5x + 12

y = 5x + 12

&

y = - x

Thus :

- x = 5x + 12

Add both sides x

- x + x = 5x + x + 12

0 = 6x + 12

Subtract both sides 12

0 - 12 = 6x + 12 - 12

- 12 = 6x

Switch sides

6x = - 12

Divide both sides by 6

(6x)/(6) = ( - 12)/(6) \\

x = - 2

We found the x-coordinate of the solution point ; to find the y-coordinate we just need to put the value of x in one 0f the given equations :

y = - ( - 2)

y = 2

Thus ( - 2 , 2 ) is the solution to this system of equations.
