Answer is -3/11

Step by step

You can cross multiply here.
5( x + 1) = -1(6x -2)

Distribute

5x + 5 = -6x +2

Add 6x to both sides to isolate variables

5x + 6x + 5 = -6x + 6x + 2

Combine

11x + 5 = 2

Now subtract 5 from both sides to combine like terms

11x + 5 - 5 = 2 - 5

11x = -3

Divide both sides by 11 to solve for x

X = -3/11
