You can use substitution
Since x = 1/2y + 5
You can plug that in second equation
2(1/2y + 5) + 3y = -14
y + 10 + 3y = -14
4y = -24, y = -6
Plug into first equation
x = 1/2(-6) + 5 = 2
Solution: (2, -6)

Explanation:

x=½y+5. ......i

2x+3y=-14. .....ii

putting the value of x in equation ii.

2(½y+5)+3y=-14

y+10+3y=-14

4y=-24

y=-6

Now, putting the value of y in first equation.

x=½y+5

x=(½×-6)+5

x=-3+5

x=2.

therefore, the value of x=2 and y=-6.

So, option D is correct answer.

hope this helps you.
