Let x = the number of children’s tickets
Then 3x + 8 is the number of adult tickets
x + 3x + 8 = 96
4x = 88 - add the x’s and subtract 8 from both sides
x = 22 - divide both sides by 4
22 children’s tickets
3(22) +8 = 74 adult tickets
Check 22 + 74 = 96
