Since the the second fraction is negative and you are subtracting, remove the negative sign and switch the operation to addition.
The equivalent equation is
5/14 + 1/14

The two fractions have like denominators so you can subtract the numerators.
Then:
5+1/14 = 6/14

This fraction can be reduced by dividing both the numerator and denominator by the Greatest
Common Factor of 6 and 14 using
GCF(6,14) = 2

6 divided by 2/14 divided by 2 = 6/14

Therefore:
5/14 - -1/14 = 3/7
