Answer:

x = 4, y = 2

Explanation:

- 3x + 8y = 4 → (1)

3x - 2y = 8 → (2)

adding the 2 equations term by term will eliminate x

0 + 6y = 12

6y = 12 ( divide both sides by 6 )

y = 2

substitute y = 2 into either of the 2 equations and solve for x

substituting into (1)

- 3x + 8(2) = 4

- 3x + 16 = 4 ( subtract 16 from both sides )

- 3x = - 12 ( divide both sides by - 3 )

x = 4
