(From Unit 1, Lesson 4.)
5. Point B has coordinates (-2,-5). After a translation 4 units down, a reflection across
the y-axis, and a translation 6 units up, what are the coordinates of the image?

Answer: (2, -3)

==================================================

Work Shown:

B = (-2,-5)

B ' = (-2, -9) .... translate 4 units down

B '' = (2, -9) .... reflect over y axis

B ''' = (2, -3) .... translate 6 units up

------------

Step-by-step explanation:

To translate up or down, we add or subtract values to the y coordinate. So to go 4 units down we subtract 4 from the y coordinate. To go 6 units up, we add 6 to the y coordinate. It might help to draw the xy axis and plot the points mentioned to see what's going on.

To reflect over the y axis, flip the sign of the x coordinate from positive to negative or vice versa.
