Sandra left the waiter a tip.

She multiplied the cost of the
meal by .15 (fifteen percent) to
find out how much to leave.
How much was the tip?

Answer: The tip is the (cost x 1.15) - cost

Explanation:

If she multiplied her meal by .15, that is 1 +0.15. That's 1.15 of the cost, but to get 0.15, Sandra needs to subtract the "1" which was the original price
