Why did the red cross have Canadian locations to help during ww1?

With the help of the ICRC, CRC volunteers visited recovering soldiers in Britain, made an effort to find missing soldiers, kept records on all Canadian POWs, and communicated with Canadian relatives about the whereabouts of their sick, injured, missing, or captured loved ones.
