Answer:

Explanation:

Hint: Whenever working with mixed fractions, first convert the mixed fractions to improper fractions to make calculations easier

A mixed fraction of the form
\displaystyle a(b)/(c) can be converted to an improper fraction through the process
(a * c + b)/(c)

Question 4

\rm Total \;amount \;of \;soup \;made = 4(1)/(2)\;quarts

\rm 4(1)/(2) = (4 * 2 + 1)/(2) = (9)/(2)

\rm \textrm {So total amount of soup made }= (9)/(2)\;quarts

\rm Only\;(4)/(5)\;of\;this\;soup\;was\;served

\rm Quantity \; of \; soup \; served = (4)/(5) * (9)/(2) \\\\= (4 * 9)/(5*2) = (18)/(5) \; quarts\\\\

\rm If\;each\;serving\;is\;\frac{\ensuremath{3}}{5}\;of\;a\;quart\;then\\

\text{Total\ number\ of\ servings\ =\ensuremath{(18)/(5)/}\ensuremath{\ensuremath{(3)/(5)}}= (18)/(5) \ensuremath{*\text{\ensuremath{(5)/(3)=}6\;servings}}}

\rm {Total\ number\ of\ servings\ =\ensuremath{(18)/(5)/}\ensuremath{\ensuremath{(3)/(5)}}= (18)/(5) \ensuremath{*\text{\ensuremath{(5)/(3)=}6\;servings}}}

\rm {Hector's\;mistake\;was\;probably\;taking\;} (18)/(5)\;as\;the\;number\;of\;servings\;since\;\\\\\\frac{18}{5}=\;3(3)/(5)\;

Question 5

\rm {Total\;ounces\;of\;shampoo\;in\;new\;bottle\;=\;4.8\;+\;5.4\;+\;6.6\;=\;16.8\;ounces}\\\\Since\;hairdresser\;used\;\frac[2}{5}\;of\;the\;new\;bottle,\;the\;amount\;of\;shampoo\;she\;used\;is\;(2)/(5)*{16.8}\;=6.72\;ounces\;\\\\

The two different ways of solving this problem are:

\rm1)\; as\; above

\rm2)\;Take\;\;(2)/(5)\;of\;each\;of\;the\;bottles\;and\;add\;them:\\\\(2)/(5)*\;{4.8}\;+\;(2)/(5)*\;{5.4}+\;(2)/(5)*\;{6.6}\\\\=\;1.92\;+\;2.16\;+\;2.64\;=\;6.72\;ounces

Answer:

4)
\sf \: 3 (1)/(10)

5) she used 6.72 ounces

Explanation:

4) 4 1/2 − 4/5 − 3/5

=9/2 − 4/5 − 3/5

=37/10 − 3/5

= 31/10

=3 1/10

5) 4.8 + 5.4 + 6.6

=10.2+6.6

=16.8

Since she used 2/5 of shampoo we will multiply 2/5 by 16.8

= (16.8)(2)/5

= 33.6/5

=6.72

She used 6.72 of shampoo

Then, substract 6.72 from 16.8

=16.8-6.72

=16.8−6.72

=16.8+−6.72

=10.08

10.08 is the remaining ounces

Therefore, she used 6.72 ounces
