The rising action of the story “an Indian fathers plea” is the schoolteacher writes a letter to a child's parents in the short story "An Indian Father's Plea" describing the child as a slow learner who doesn't pay attention. The boy is intelligent and eager to learn, but his surroundings is unhealthy and he is being treated unfairly, the parents say in response. He gets teased in school and is thought to be a slow student, though, due of the differences in his culture. In response, the child's father writes the teacher a letter outlining how his son differs from other kids in a positive way.
