Explanation:

Zeros of an expression are the x values which make the expression = 0

Factor x² + 6x -16 as follows
(x -2)(x+8)

If we set x² + 6x -16 =0

that would be equivalent to setting

(x -2)(x+8) = 0

Two solutions.

Either x - 2 ==> x = 2

or x + 8 = 0 ==> x = -8
