In a rectangle, the width is 2 more than three

times the length. If the perimeter is 44 inches,
what is the length of the rectangle?
Use: p= 2/+2wfor the formula of a rectangle.

Answer:

length = 5 inches

Explanation:

let l be length then width w = 3l + 2

using perimeter (P) = 2l + 2w

given P = 44 , then

2l + 2(3l + 2) = 44

2l + 6l + 4 = 44

8l + 4 = 44 ( subtract 4 from both sides )

8l = 40 ( divide both sides by 8 )

l = 5

the length of the rectangle is 5 inches
