Step-by-step explanation: When you have absolute values around a number, that number changes into a positive number.

For example, you have

|-48|, that instantly changes into 48 because of the absolute value around it.

For a, |-48| and |-45| changes to 48 and 45 which you can now see which one is bigger.

If you have 13 in absolute values |13|, it stays the same because it is already positive so you don't have to change it
