Simon spent 1/4 OF his wages on rent he spent 20%of his wages on food he spent 0.15 of his wages on clothes work out the fraction of his wages that he had left

1.) First we have to convert the numbers into the same form. In this case, it is a fraction as it's what the question asks us to leave the answer in.

To make steps easier later, choose the same denominator (bottom fraction number) that suits best with all the numbers. In this instance it's 100.

ΒΌ = 25/100

20% = 20/100

0.15 = 15/100

2.) As all our numbers are now converted and have the same common denominator, we can simply just add the numerator (top fraction number) of each fraction, but keep the denominator the same.

25/100 + 20/100 + 15/100 = 60/100

3.) Finally we have to subtract our total (60/100 - how much he spent) from our total fraction of 100 to figure out how much he has left.

100 - 60/100 = 40/100

  • 40/100 can be further simplified to for 4/10 and then 2/5.
