Explanation:

If the length of the wire is x m and is bent into a square then the perimeter of the square (sum of all 4 sides of square) must be x

Since each side of a square is the same, let's call it a, then perimeter = 4a

Therefore 4a = x
Or each side a = x/4

Area of a square of side a = a x a = a²

Substituting for a in terms of x:
Area = (x/4)² = x²/4² = x²/16 (Part A answer)

When x = 4
Area = 4²/16 = (4 x 4)/16 = 16/16 = 1

We can do this in another way:
When x = 4, perimeter = 4, each side a = 4/4 = 1

Area = a² = a x a = 1 x 1 = 1
