Plate tectonics is the study of how Earth's crust shifts. The crust of Earth is floating on a massive reservoir of magma called the mantle.

The shifting of plates is extremely slow but sometimes they can suddenly shift causing an earthquake. If it happens under water, a tsunami can occur.
