A sedimentary rock is a rock from the rock cycle that is formed through the erosion and compaction of sediments.

There are steps for a rock to become sedimentary. The steps will be listed below:

1. Erosion

Erosion is the destruction of (or separation of) sediments. Sediments are eroded through natural processes such as wind, rain, and tornadoes.

2. Deposition

Deposition is the taking down of what used to be a sediment. This can happen also through natural processes.

3. Weathering

Weathering is the separation and moving of a sediment. This helps for new rocks to form!

4. Compaction

Compaction is the process in which rocks are tightly packed together. They aren’t necessarily glued together but they are close to each other.

5. Cementation

Cementation is the final process of sedimentary rocks. In this process, the compacted rock is glued together and forms a unique sedimentary rock.
