y = x - 2 → (1)

y = - 0.5x + 4 → (2)

substitute y = x - 2 into (2)

x - 2 = - 0.5x + 4 ( add 0.5x to both sides )

1.5x - 2 = 4 ( add 2 to both sides )

1.5x = 6 ( divide both sides by 1.5 )

x = 4

substitute x = 4 into (1)

y = 4 - 2 = 2

solution is (4, 2 )
