If we let variable x be the number then
8 times a number ==> 8x

2 and 8 times a number ==> 2 + 8x

2 and 8 times a number is -134 ==> 2 + 8x = -134

A) Equation form is 2 + 8x = -134

B) Equation is
2 + 8x = -134

Subtract 2 from both sides:
2 - 2 + 8x = -134 - 2
8x = -136

Divide both sides by 8 to give
8x/8 = -136/8
x = - 17
