adenine is one of the two purine nucleobases used informing nucleotides of the nucleic acid.

It is found opposite thymine in the DNA double helix

It pairs with thymine in DNA and uracil in RNA forming two hydrogen pairs

It is used for building DNA and RNA but its also used for storing energy in the cell
