In direct democracy, the people decide on policies without any intermediary or representative. All laws and policies imposed by governments are determined by the people themselves, rather than by representatives who are elected by the people. Citizens vote for leaders to represent them and their ideas, and the leaders support the citizens' interests. There are two special rights only for U.S. citizens: voting in federal elections and running for federal office.
