Explanation:
the area of the rectangle is 5 x 6 = 30
the area of the left triangle is 3 x 6 = 18
18 / 2 = 9
the area of the right triangle is 6 x 1 = 6
6 / 2 = 3
the last step is to add the area of each to each other 30 + 9 + 3 = 42
