Write as an equation and solve.

On Monday, Ken spent half of his money on
a new game. The next day he earned
$12 mowing lawns. He now has $32. How much money did Ken have before he
bought the game?

2(32-12)=40

X = his money
Y = half of his money
X = 2Y & Y = 1/2X

He earned $12 mowing lawn, and that, added to the other half of his money gives $32

As an equation, 32 = Y + 12
So Y = 32 - 12 if we takeaway 12 from both sides.
Therefore, Y = 20 and since X = 2Y, X = 2 x 20 which gives 40
Ken initially had $40
