The answer is -6 :)

1. Add 40 to both sides of the equation.

-8x-40=8

-8x-40+40=8+40

2. Add the numbers.

-8x=48

3. Divide both sides of the equation by the same term.

-8x=48

(-8x)/(-8)=
(48)/(-8)

4. Cancel terms that are in both the numerator and denominator and divide the numbers.

x=-6

hope this helped! :)
