Answer:

The number of $5 bills is 6

The number of $1 bills is 8

Explanation:

Given the number of $1 bills is x, and of $5 bills is y

Then x + y = 14 or x = 14 - y

And 1(x) + 5(y) = 38

then 1(14 - y) + 5y = 38

14 - y + 5y = 38

4y = 38 - 14

4y =24

y = 6

if the number of $5 bills is 6

then the number of $1 bills is 14 - 6 = 8

$38 in total with 14 bills

$38 - $3 = $35 (3 $1 bills)

$35 - $30 = $5 (6 $5 bills)

$5 - $5 = $0 (another 5 $1 bills)

Total: 8 x $1 and 6 x $5
