First, solve what's in the parentheses remembering that when two exponents have the same base and are being multiplied together, their exponents add together:

3 + (-1) = 2

(2^2) / 2^2

And when two exponents with the same base are being divided by each other, the exponents subtract:

2 - 2 = 0

(2^0)

And any number to the power of 0 equals 1:

(2^0) = 1
