Each had a sandwich platter that costs $5.85 and a drink that
costs $1.25. Five of the employees had dessert that costs $1.50.
Mr. Crowley gave the delivery person $80 and told her to keep
the change as a tip. How much was the delivery person's tip?

Explanation:

Let x = the tip

80 - x = 9(5.85 + 1.25) + 5(1.50)

80 -x = 63.90 + 7.5

80 - x = 71.40 Subtract 80 from both sides

-x = -8.60 Divide both sides by -1

x = 8.60
