Solution

Let the time taken by Mahim to clean out the garden be x hours.

∴ Time taken by Majid= (x+3) hrs.

Now, in 2 hrs. Mahim works 2x part of the work and in 2 hrs. Majid works 2x+3 part of the work. As per question, 2x+2x+3=1 [∵ complete work =1]

or, 2(1x+1x+3)=1

or, 2{x+3+xx(x+3)}=1

or, 2{2x+3x2+3x}=1or,4x+6x2+3x=1

or, x2+3x=4x+6

or, x2−x−6=0

Hence the required quadratic equation is x2−x−6=0
