In order to overcome low self esteem the person must identify what are causing those feelings. It can be anything from body image, intrusive thoughts, mental illnesses (anxiety, depression, etc.), stress, or a combination of many of these factors.

Recognizing weaknesses in themselves is a good thing, however obsessing over mistakes and weaknesses is a whole nother story.
