I do believe that these rules are overly simplistic and need some clarification. The rule "eat food," is a relatively good rule as some people believe that starving yourself is the best way to lose weight when in actuality it will slow down your metabolism and hurt your body in the long run. The second rule "not too much," is also a decent rule but needs to be clarified on how many calories you need to eat. Going on a calorie deficit is a good way to lose weight when you're actually getting proper nutrients, I've seen some people only eat 1,000 calories a day and that's extremely dangerous as that's how many calories a toddler is supposed to eat. I don't like the rule "mostly plants," devoiding yourself of proper protein is not good for you and will most times make you feel fatigued. In a lot of cases, if you restrict yourself from the foods you love to eat, you'll just end up binge eating all of the food you've been missing out on. Everything is fine in moderation, if you eat one doughnut a week none of your progress will be lost. You'd have to eat 3,500 calories to gain a pound, I've seen it happen to where people will not eat the foods they crave for a few days and then end up binging later on and feel bad about it. Eating a little bit of junk food while on a diet will not kill you.
