Many family members of people suffering from Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia try to care for their relative for as long as possible. There are many advantages of having a close relative care for a mentally challenged loved one, but there are often disadvantages or difficulties as well. Describe some of the factors to consider when deciding whether or not to care for a relative with dementia. At what point should the relative consider a professional care situation such as assisted living or a nursing home’s dementia care center?
