Why do oxygen (O2) molecules move into the cell and carbon dioxide (CO2) molecules move out of the cell on the ciliated side ?

Oxygen and carbon dioxide move across cell membranes via simple diffusion a process that requires no energy input and is driven differences in concentration on either side of the cell membranes.
