“Si j’avais su, j’y serais allé/e...”

Is the extra e added when a female is taking or when referring to a feminine place after?

Help greatly appreciated, very confused. ♡

Answer: The e is added if a female is talking when using the "passé composé" tense with the verb "être".

Explanation: discussion between two friends, Max and Amelia:

Max: Où es-tu allée hier soir?

Amelia: Je suis allée au parc, et toi?

Max: Je suis allé au cinéma.

Here the verb "être" is used (suis, es).

If the verb "avoir" is used, then we don't add an e, regardless of if it's a male or a female talking.

example:

Max: Qu'as-tu mangé hier?

Amelia: J'ai mangé un sandwich, et toi?

Max: J'ai mangé une pizza.

Hope this helps :)
