Masha bought red, green, and yellow balloons for a party. She bought 40 red balloons. The number of green balloons Masha bought is 3/5 of the number of red balloons. The number of green balloons is also 2/3 of the number of yellow balloons.While being inflated, 1/20 of the red balloons, 1/12 of the green balloons, and 1/36 of the yellow balloons popped. The remaining balloons were used as party decorations. What part of all the balloons Marsha purchased to decorate the party?

Red = 40
Green= split the 40 into 5 groups to see how much it would be if you took 3 of them
8 8 8 8 8
If you take 3/5 groups then you get 8+8+8 which = 24 therefor
Green=24
Yellow = divide 24 by 2 to see how much you would get if it was 2/3
Which would be 12 12 12
because if you took 2 out of the 3 groups here it would equal (12+12) 24 (or green)
Thats how you know that if you took all three groups it would equal yellow so
Yellow= 36

Now if 1/20 of the red balloons (40) popped it would just be 1 balloon for every 20. We know that theres only 2 20s that can fit into 40. therefor only 2 red balloons popped

Same thing for green and yellow but only 1 popped in each because it is the 1 the number calculated.

All together she bought 88 balloons (40+12+36) and 4 popped so 84 were used

So it’s 84/88 balloons and you can simplify it down to 5/6

(simplify by dividing both numbers by whatever they both can till you can’t anymore)
Example 64/82can go down to 32/40 by dividing both numbers by 2

The answers are gonna be:
38 out of 40 red balloons were used
11 out of 12 green balloons were used
35 out of 36 yellow balloons were used

So 5/6 of all the balloons bought were used in the party
