Answer:

  • 100 miles

Explanation:

Let the number of miles be x.

Company A

Total amount of rental is:

  • A = 40 + 0.7x

Company B

Total amount of rental is:

  • B = 20 + 0.9x

Since A = B, substitute the values and solve the equation:

  • 40 + 0.7x = 20 + 0.9x
  • 0.9x - 0.7x = 40 - 20
  • 0.2x = 20
  • x = 20/0.2
  • x = 100
