If you are stirring sugar into your morning coffee, why do the sugar grains appear to disappear?

The sugar is transforming into coffee molecules due to dissolving
The coffer and sugar are combining in a chemical reaction to create a new, sweeter coffee
The grains of sugar are being pulled apart by polar molecules in the coffee to create the solution

When the sugar dissolves, it is broken up into individual particles; each molecule is surrounded by water molecules. Essentially, you are trying to decide if a single molecule is a solid or liquid when dissolve.
