The length of a rectangle is 6 mi. less than 2 times the width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 54 mi., find the length and the width.

(Hint - The perimeter of a rectangle is given by: P=2L+2W )

Answer: L= 16 mi., W= 11 mi.
54=2(2W-6)+2(W)
54=4W-12+2W
54=6W-12
66=6W
W= 11 mi.

L= (2(11)-6)
L= 16 mi.
