Please help!!!

Mr. Norton wrote the equation y = 5x. She says that x = the number of students in a group and y = the number of colored pencils that will be given to the group. Explain the meaning of the number 5 in this equation. If there are 3 students in a group, how many colored pencils will the group get?

Answer:

The 5 means that 5 colored pencils will be given to each student.

Since x = students, just plug 3 in place of the x to find the amount of coloreed penceils the group will get.

y = 5(3) = 15
