Mark and Don are planning to sell each of their marble collections at a garage sale. If Don has 1 more than 4 times the number of marbles Mark has, how many does each boy have to sell if the total number of marbles is 91 ?

Mark has 18 and Don has 73

Explanation:

Let M = Mark and let D = Don

D = 4M + 1

D + M = 91

Substitute and solve for M

4M +1 + M = 91

5M = 90

M = 18

Therefore D = 4(18) + 1 = 73
