Answer: I'd say the voice is doubtful, but also hopeful, or longing. They know it's not looking good, but they're hoping that player will play next and win the game at the last second.

Explanation: I interpret the poem to be simply saying this:

The outlook wasn't good for the team. The other team had double their score, with just one section of the game left. When two more people lost, the audience went silent. The remaining players got up slowly, very disappointed. The rest tried to stay hopeful. They thought, if only a specific player could even play once, they'd be so sure of that player making the team win, that they would even bet money on it.
