Is this relation a function? Justify your answer.

• A. Yes, because every x- and yvalue is positive.
• B. Yes, because the number of x-values is the same as the number of
yvalues.
• C. Yes, because every x-value corresponds with a single y value.
O D. No, because two points with the same y value have different x-
values.

Answer: I don’t see an attachment, but in order for it to be a function, (C) is true, every x-value has to correspond with a single y-value. See my attachment, If there were two x=4 values (4,2) and (4,-2) it would not pass the vertical line test (green highlight) and so it would not be a function.
