  • x + y = 12
  • -5x + 6y = -5

Substitute:

  • x = 12 - y
  • - 5(12 - y) + 6y = - 5
  • - 60 + 5y + 6y = - 5
  • 11y = 60 - 5
  • 11y = 55
  • y = 5

Find x:

  • x = 12 - 5 = 7
