Britain needed to pay for their war debts. King George III and the parliament believed they had the full right to tax the colonies. They decided to require several kinds of taxes from the colonists to help pay for the French and Indian War. Such as sugar, tea, paper, and even playing cards. The main reason the Tea Tax was put in place to be a bailout policy to get the British East India Company out of debt.
