A bee flies at 6 feet per second directly to a flowerbed from its hive The bee stays at the flowerbed for 20 ​minutes, and then flies directly back to the hive at 4 feet per second. It is away from the hive for a total of 24 minutes.

Explanation:

24-20= 4 minutes spent traveling

convert to seconds because speed is in ft per sec

=4× 60 sec

=240 seconds

t1=time to get there

t2=time to get back

1. t1+t2=240

distance should be the same so

d1=t1×s1

d2=t2×s2

s1=6ft per sec

s2=4ft per sec

d2=d1

2.t1×s1=t2×s2

6t1=4t2

6t1-4t2=0

first equation multiply by 4

3. 4t1+4t2=960

add equations

+6t1-4t2=0

=10t1=960

t1=96 seconds

t2=240-96

=144 seconds
